VARNA CHARTERS 2011

The city of Varna is about thousand years old. Due to its favourable geographic location, the place was first inhabited by an ancient Thracian tribe, Corbisi, which had a small fishermen settlement there. In the 6th century BC a Greek polis, named Odessos, emerged there. The town became a fishing and farming colony, which soon turned into commercial hub. The town fell under the siege of Alexander of Macedonia's troops in the 4th century BC, but after the siege did not succeed to subject it, the town was given autonomy within the limits of his Empire. Up to the 1st century BC it was an independent polis, which minted its own coins with the image of its god. Later on, conquered by Mark Lukulus' legions, it became a Roman centre though gradually it lost supremacy in the region. In the 9th century it was already called Varna. The town was included in the territory of Bulgaria in the beginning of the 13lh century during the reign of King Kaloyan. Despite its strong defence system, the town was conquered by the Turks in 1391 which gradually transformed it into an oriental city with konaks (town-halls), Turkish baths and mosques. In 1878 Varna was finally liberated from Ottoman rule and became the most important Bulgarian seaport. Even if the city was industrialised, it also developed into a seaside resort, and a favourite holiday place for the Bulgarian cultural elite. The city carried the name of Stalin for a short time, but after 1956 it returned the name of Varna.

THURSDAY VARNA CITY TOUR & THE DOLPHIN SHOW

11:00 - Departure from the hotel.
12:00 - Watch one of the top ten dolphin shows in the world.
13:00 - Browse the Marine Park "the biggest in the Balkan range".
14:00 - Proceed to visit the Aquarium with more than 140 species fishes plus refreshments.

09:00 - Departure to Alfatar Town with a midway stop in the town of Dobrich for refreshments. (Refreshments not included)
12:00 - Arrival to Alfatar, a traditional welcome with live folk music will take place and local brandy and bread will be served. Proceed to visit the Holy Trinity church.
14:00 - Lunch in a typical Bulgarian restaurant while enjoying the traditional Bulgarian wedding show.
15:00 - A romantic boat trip in the Danube river while enjoying live music plus refreshments.
17:00 - Return to the hotel.

MONDAY YACHT PICNIC

09:15 - Departure from the hotel to the port of Balchik.
10:00 - Departure from the port.
12:00 - Arrival to a wonderfull bay, drop anchor and disembark to the beach by a small boat.
12:30 - The picnic starts.
13:15 - Free time for fishing, sport games – volleyball, football, pulling rope, diving with snorkel and fins. For children – Frisbee, balls and hoops
14:45 - Return to the yacht by a small boat
15:00 - Pull anchor and sail back to the port of Balchick

LEBANESE EVENING

20:45 - Departure to the Lebanese restaurant Sindbad. (One way transport only "From the hotel to the restaurant")

TUESDAY BALCHIK AND THE BOTANICAL GARDENS

12:30 - Departure to Balchik.
13:30 - Arrival to Balchik, a small walk along the nice beach, lunch in one of the fish restaurants.
14:30 - Visit the Botanical gardens and the Summer Residence of Queen Maria Louisa.
16:30 - Proceed to the famous Albena resort. Free time for refreshments and to enjoy the resort.
18:30 - Return to the hotel.

DAILY JEEP SAFARI

09:30 - Departure from the hotel to Kukeri square passing through "Golden Sands Natural Park". Stop at the Black Sea Panorama for a short while where safety instructions would be given. Off-road route to the village of Osenovo. Visit the Rakia distillery in the village followed by a visit to the bee hives to taste the natural honey that is being produced. Continue the off-road route through the forests to the place where the picnic will take place
15:30 - Return to the hotel.
